Birthdays are like trains… they’ll be another one

Yesterday, the former Apprentice star returned to the sofa to debate whether it is ok to miss your child’s birthday, with guest journalist Shona Sibary.

Katie shocked hosts Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield with her admission that she often works on her children’s birthdays and ‘they happen at a time that is convenient for the rest of us.’

Hard-working mums recognise birthdays have to wait

The mother-of-three claimed that ‘too many children are seen as being too special and have everything.’

She added: ‘It’s important that children understand mummy’s got to work in order to provide for us all and at the weekend or at a convenient time we’ll pick up and we’ll have a birthday then.’

‘Birthdays are like trains… they’ll be another one,’ she said.

Mother-of-two Holly, who argued that birthdays are a special day for children, asked her guest: ‘aren’t you being emotionally defunct?’

To which Katie replied: ‘hard-working mums recognise birthdays have to wait.’

When asked if her children are left without presents to open on the morning of their birthdays, Katie said that there are gifts waiting in a room and it is her children’s choice whether they open them then or wait for her to return at the weekend.

Do not bring India up again Philip or I will sit on your lap!

Host Philip Schofield then pointed out that Katie’s three children India, Poppy, and Max have one group party every other year instead of having one each.

Referring to her last TV conversation with Philip when he pointed out her own children’s untraditional names, she remarked: ‘do not bring India up again Philip or I will sit on your lap!’

‘That's possibly the worst thing I have ever heard of all the things you've said,’ said a shocked Philip.
