True Blood fans, it's time to come to terms with the inevitable; our fave vampire TV series is coming to an end.

HBO's executive head of programming revealed the news to the masses, heaping praise upon the Anna Paquin and Alexander Skarsgard show, which follows a group of very sexy vampires, werewolves and similarly fantastical creatures as they live amongst each other in a Louisiana town.

Alan Ball, who penned the first series of True Blood, explained that he knew Charlaine Harris' book Southern Vampire Mysteries would make an excellent telly series: "From the moment I read Charlaine's books, I thought there was potential for something really special. Then our amazing writers, cast and crew brought her world to life in a way that exceeded my wildest expectations."

The final series of True Blood will air in 2014.
