When Jenny and Jeff Long found out they were expecting a second baby, they were overjoyed - they couldn't wait to give their son Connor a baby brother or sister.

But then doctors told them that their baby would be born with Cerebral Palsy, advising them: "Your son is going to be a burden on your family… put him in a home."

They chose to keep their baby and, despite the differences between Connor and Cayden, an unshakeable bond was forged. And, one day, when he was sad seeing his brother sit at the window and watch him play outside, Connor had an idea.

He was going to run a triathlon with Cayden. And it meant that they became more than brothers, more than playmates - they were teammates.

And, although they would finish last, they would finish together - as one.

Connor, speaking about his little brother, said: "When I see him smiling and laughing, I know he's having a good time."

"The one thing that makes me really mad is when people walk down the road and say the R-word, if you know what I mean.

"I just tell them that it's not what's on the outside that matters, it's what's on the inside. And he still has regular feelings like we do... he understands what you say about him."

If people could race with people that can't walk or talk… it might open the eye of people that don't really care about it. And maybe people that don't care in the past will care about it in the future."

Connor's dream is that, one day, he and Cayden will travel to the moon together and plant their very own Long Brothers flag up there.

And, looking at his determination, we have a feeling he might just do it.
