Speaking to Sky News yesterday, the 54-year-old admitted:

‘I feed Eric, I talk to him and play with him, but I don’t think dads do changing nappies. I’ll leave that up to the nanny.’

The British music mogul became a father for the first time in February, when his New Yorker girlfriend Lauren Silverman gave birth to their son Eric.

Earlier this week Simon introduced his son to his mother for the first time. The visit was sure to be an emotional one, as Eric is named after Simon’s late father.

Speaking about the meeting, a source close to Simon said:

“It was a lovely visit from Simon and Lauren and Julie was thrilled.

“There were some very emotional moments when she got to hold and touch Eric and his name is obviously very poignant for Julie as her husband Eric died in 1999.”

And despite laying down new roots in America, the X Factor judge believes he has done his bit to help Britain out of the recession with his talent shows.

‘Whenever I got knocked for what I do, I always say I do pay my taxes. It helps and I am proud of that. Of course I care about where the money’s spent,’ he explained.

‘But I feel there’s a sense of optimism again in this country, compared to what it was like four or five years ago. People seem to be more confident.’
