Divide don’t have a human mayor, so they have a charity election to vote in a furry friend to do the job instead.

Professional rescue dog Pa received 2,387 votes from the residents of Divide, pipping Kenyi the wolf to the post, who will take the title of Deputy Mayor.

Other candidates who didn’t quite make the cut included a donkey, a cat and a hedgehog. There’s always next year, guys!

Pa’s owner, Janey Bennett, had the task of convincing the locals that Pa was the best animal for the job. And she’s convinced that he beat the other electees because he was the most qualified for the role. “He’s the only candidate that has a real job. And he has a last name and birth certificate, which I don’t think the others do.”

In his official inauguration this weekend, Pa will become the successor to Walter, a three-legged cat and the previous mayor of Divide, who is taking a well-earned retirement!
