It’s EastEnders’ biggest-ever ‘whodunnit’ and it will run until February 2015 to coincide with the show’s 30th anniversary.

And, even now that Ian and his family are desperately trying to come to terms with her death, we still have no idea who murdered Lucy Beale.

But, for a murder mystery to last at least 10 months, there will have to be some twists along the way. And an exciting new theory has cropped up on the internet that sounds extremely plausible…

According to David Brown of the Radio Times, Lucy Beale was NOT the murderer's intended victim - Lauren Branning was.

After all, they HAVE been dressing in exactly the same clothes lately. Exactly the same clothes. But why would anyone want to do away with Lauren?

Well, it all has to do with a key.

He explains: "Cast your mind back to when Stacey handed herself in to the police after admitting that she’d bumped off Archie Mitchell.

"What did she entrust to Lauren’s safe keeping? A key! And who was there in the Vic at the time? Ronnie Mitchell!"

You know what? That actually sounds pretty plausible - after all, Ronnie has a history of murder - and Eastenders boxes Dominic Treadwell-Collins has promised us a) a big twist in Lucy's murder plot and b) a seriously new dark side to Ronnie.

Plus there's the fact it was LAUREN who was supposed to be at the flats that night - and it was pretty dark out there. We imagine it could be pretty easy to mistake one hapless estate agent for another, especially if you're in a hurry.

Could it be true? And, if so, does that mean Lauren is in danger?

We guess we'll have to wait and see...

Did Ronnie Mitchell accidentally kill Lucy Beale?
