A student stabbed RE and Spanish teacher Ann Maguire to death with a knife in front of a class of pupils.

She was taken from Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

It is reportedly the first time in the UK a teacher has been killed by student in the classroom.

The alleged attacker was reportedly a middle class pupil who his peers described as ‘really weird.’ It has also been reported that his Facebook page shows a picture of the grim reaper.

According to reports, the attacker had received a detention from Mrs. Maguire a week before the attack, and the suspected student felt that his teacher was ‘always getting at him.’

A 16-year-old classmate describe him as a loner who had previously been bullied and had taken anti-depressants. He was also allegedly a ‘grade A’ student but did not like his Spanish teacher.

A woman who knew a child in the classroom at the time of the attack told the Mail Online: ‘He had been given a detention a few days earlier and he had told classmates that she had “kept on getting at him”.’

‘Another girl I know said she could hear the screaming from the upstairs class. A teacher heard the noise and ran in and grabbed him.'

Pupils took to Twitter to pay tribute to their teacher, with one writing: ‘You were such a caring, funny and hardworking teacher. You'll certainly be missed.’

Students and colleagues of Mrs Maguire started laying floral tributes outside the school, with one note reading: ‘To a special teacher. We was all sad about it. I will never forget you.’
