But one shopping centre in Sheffield has announced plans to combat this once and for all by introducing ‘slow’ and ‘fast’ lanes – thanks to a complaint from a 10-year-old girl.

Slow walkers in the Meadowhall centre left Chloe Nash-Lowe so annoyed that she penned an angry letter to the bosses of the centre to let them know just how ‘incredibly disappointed’ a recent trip left her.

In her letter, Chloe wrote: “Will you ever tell people not to walk so slow? If you do this for me I will be delighted – please do it.”

Amazingly they listened to her and have revealed plans to trial a new ‘overtaking lane’ in the shopping centre.

The trial will see two different lanes introduced, with markings to indicate which is the fast lane and which is the slow.

Centre director Darren Pearce told a UK newspaper: “I want to thank Chloe for taking the time to write in and share her views with us – we love to hear feedback from our younger shoppers.

The new overtaking lane is thought to be the first of its kind in Britain

“The Meadowhall team liked Chloe’s idea so much that we have decided to trial an overtaking lane for fast walkers on the malls – helping them to get to where they need to be on time.”

Speaking of her victory, Chloe told a newspaper: “When my teacher asked me to write a letter about something I’d like to change I never thought it would actually happen.

“I think it looks great and I am so pleased to see it in action.” The new overtaking lane is thought to be the first of it’s kind in the country.
