After weeks of seeming not very happy in her marriage, Sonia Fowler is about to do something about it.

She's grown close to openly gay Tina Carter, and Sonia will make a move on her in scenes set to air next week.

Speaking to a UK website, Natalie Cassidy AKA Sonia said: “is Sonia 100% happy with Martin? Probably not. I don’t think he pays her a lot of attention, and while Sonia’s a sensible woman, she’s aching for a bit more.”

Sonia is no stranger to having relationships with women, and it seems that things with Tina could go further than a kiss.

Natalie added: “Sonia’s had a relationship with a woman before. But it’s not about lesbianism or Sonia being gay, and there’s actually a scene where she tells Bianca that she doesn’t want to put a label on who she is.

“Sonia’s quite modern in that sense, so in Laymen’s terms we can call her bisexual.”

But Sonia’s fling with Tina could come as a shock to regular viewers of the show. In 2006 Sonia had a relationship with nurse Naomi, which was one of the reasons Natalie cited when she first left the soap.

At the time, Natalie said: “One of the reasons I left was the storyline. I felt it wasn’t right for Sonia. Sometimes people are so keen to get a shocking story the character gets forgotten.”

With everything that is going on with their mum Carol and her battle with cancer, Sonia clashes with sister Bianca when her kiss with Tina is revealed.
