Metal spikes, which many believe have been installed to deter homeless people from sleeping in an alcove outside a block of luxury flats in London, have sparked outrage on Twitter, after pictures of the building went viral.
The image of the 1-inch long "anti-homeless spikes" has been circulating rapidly across social media, with many expressing their disgust and outrage at the "brutal" plan.
User @CraigMcVegas described them as "barbarism", adding: "A society should be judged on how it treats its most vulnerable." David Wells compared them to spikes used to prevent pigeons from resting on buildings, tweeting: "the destitute now considered vermin".
However Katie Hopkins, famed for her controversial views, has waded into the debate to lend her support to the scheme, likening the homeless to vermin.
Boris Johnson has also waded in on the argument; however, unlike Katie, the Mayor of London has slammed the 'self-defeating' spikes, saying that the city must do more to tackle the issue of homelessness.
A petition launched in a bid to remove the spikes has already gained more than 5,000 signatures of support.
