If there's one thing we know about Lucy Beale armchair detectives, it's this; they're VERY suspicious of Albert Square's new undertaker, Les.

Arriving in Walford shortly before Lucy's death, viewers saw Les joining forces with Charlie Cotton to seemingly swindle Dot.

Telling her that her son Nick Cotton had died, they had her pay for the funeral - and yet, when she rushed to the crematorium to view Nick's body, they both tried their hardest to stop the veteran star from looking.

Charlie's relief when Les told Dot it was too late, presenting her with an urn - before Charlie made a mysterious call to an unknown person to update them on the day.

Since Dot discovered that, not much has been said about Charlie Cotton, although new spoilers have revealed that the BBC One soap will return to his storyline next week.

With the Butchers under pressure from the police after Tiffany is caught with Aunt Babe's hash cakes, Carol (Lindsey Coulson) asks Charlie, played by Declan Bennett, for some friendly policeman's advice.

But, in the process, Carol will make a shocking discovery about Dot's "grandson".

Speaking about the ongoing mystery surrounding his character, Declan told ITV's This Morning: "I think there's some stuff going on in Charlie's world.

"He's getting himself mixed up in a lot of things."

"I think he's trying to do the right things, but for potentially the wrong reasons. Or do the wrong things for the right reasons, I should say!"
