Speaking on Reddit, the man revealed that his troubles began when he discovered his (now ex) wife was having an affair.

He explained: "I confronted her and after a lot of arguing I told her that I wanted a divorce and custody of my son.

"The next day she starts laughing and saying that my stepdaughter said I had abused her (which was a lie) and that she would be calling the police.

"She called the police and said I did things to my stepdaughter that I didn't do."

Despite working with two lawyers to build a case for his innocence, the case soon became a 'he said she said' situation - and, when one of his lawyers failed to show up to the trial, his case fell apart.

His 7-year-old stepdaughter, who gave her damning evidence via video link, asked the person questioning her to "tell my mommy that I did good, because she promised to get me ice-cream if I do good".

He added: "She also didn't have the right emotional reactions when she was describing some horrible sexual acts… she was happy and excited to tell her story."

The Reddit user said: "Long story short, with no evidence, no witnesses, and no expert on my side it only took the Jury 4 hours to deliberate and find me guilty.

"The s***ty thing was there was zero proof I did anything, just the statement from my ex and the disjointed story my stepdaughter told. They never took her to a doctor and never had her examined by a psychologist.

"They just got her to make the statement and then stopped."

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison - but he wasn't prepared to go down without a fight. He quickly hired two new lawyers and appealed against his sentence - and, after 17 months in prison, he was freed.

He explained: "The prosecution wasn't about to admit that my ex wife fooled them so they kept offering me plea deals to stop everything from moving forward.

"I denied them until they came to one that dropped the nasty sex charge and let me out immediately. In essence I took a plea for a lesser charge with time served and they let me out."

Now the Reddit user is trying to rebuild his life and regain custody of his son, not to mention filing charges against his ex.

He finished: "I feel sorry for my stepdaughter because it was her mother that manipulated her. I have no ill will towards her, she was too young to understand what she was doing to me."
