Katie Hopkins was famed for being abrasive and controversial, but it seems as if the outspoken Apprentice contestant has been transformed by her recent weight gain experiment.

KATIE HOPKINS REVEALS WEIGHT GAIN STRUGGLES

Ahead of her much-anticipated appearance on This Morning, she wrote on Twitter: "Looking forward to joining the team @itvthismorning today. One more week of eating & then we begin 08 Sept - Lose It With Katie! Many have!"

But, despite the bravado, it was a very different woman who sat down with Phil and Holly to talk about her recent weight gain.

Katie explained that she has piled on 3.5 stone so that she can lose it all again to prove how easy it truly is to shed the pounds in her upcoming show, Lose It With Katie.

She said: "I've always criticised fat people so I've put my money where my mouth is. "[But] My lungs don't have space anymore. I was 8 stone 8, I'm nearly 12 stone now."

Revealing she has consumed thousands of calories a day by "compressing [ordinary] people's lives into three months", Katie also said that she has found her journey to be an emotional one.

"Nothing's made me cry in my life… I am the witch with the heart of stone but, as it turns out, this has been much more of a mental exercise.

A clip was then shown of Katie Hopkins tearfully listing the food she had eaten that day, admitting: "I hate fat people for making me do this."

Katie also revealed that she discovered her skinniness - and disdain for overweight people - stems from her own insecurities about her epilepsy.

She said: "My reasons for being thin are similar, although at different end of the scale, to reasons people have for being overweight.

"It's about me saying that the reason I need to be super-thin…. my armour was being super-skinny."

And, when asked by Holly Willoughby if she feels sympathy for overweight people, Katie said: "I'm not lucky to be skinny… it's really hard to be fat. Carrying this around is exhausting. Feeling my stomach sitting on top of my legs is exhausting.

"If you're happy with yourself when you look in the mirror, that's fine by me… but, if not, have you got excuses? If you can become this way by eating too much and not moving enough then maybe you can take it off."
