Romantic John Shearer wanted him and partner Morag to have the perfect rings for their big day, so collected the gold himself from the Scottish mountains.
Speaking of his amazing accomplishment, John told a UK newspaper: "It was a labour of love.
"It was an amazing feeling to put the ring on her finger. I was really overwhelmed.
"They talk about gold fever. I was panning for gold in my dreams. I was driven by it. I reckon I spend 20 full days getting enough gold for the ring.
"It was a bit like climbing a mountain and getting to the top."
John and Morag were married last Thursday in a beautiful ceremony on the island of Antigua, West Indies.
All of the tiny specks combined into rings was hallmarked as 'Scottish gold', and it is so rare that it's not even commercially available.
John added: "In its natural form Scottish gold has a purity of approximately 22+ carats (pure gold being 24 carats) and a significantly greater value than the gold market value thanks to its rarity."
But this is not the first time John has panned for gold: two years ago he surprised Morag with an engagement ring also made from the nuggets he'd collected.
Morag said of John's efforts: "I feel very proud of John, and very lucky."
