The Sheffield United player was convicted of raping a 19-year-old girl after a night out.

Rather than feel remorse towards the victim- who has been forced to move away from her family and change her name after being ‘outed’ on Twitter by Evans’ supporters- the 25-year-old sports star maintains he committed no crime.

“I regret everything that happened and wish I could turn back the clock. I am very lucky my girlfriend Tasha has stood by me. She knows I am not capable of rape. She has helped me to cope. I want to play football again, but I am determined to prove my innocence.

“I really thought it would have been thrown out of court and I was stunned when I was convicted. I had done nothing wrong.”

During a statement, the hotel receptionist told the police that the victim was 'extremely drunk', adding: “She had a blank expression.”

Evans disagreed, telling the Sunday Mirror: “Although I am ashamed of my actions, she was definitely up for it. I most certainly didn’t rape anyone.”

OPINION: WHY CHED EVANS SHOULD BE GIVEN HIS JOB BACK

“It was something that should never have happened. And it is something that I will regret for the rest of my life. I cheated on my girlfriend and had sex with this girl – but it was definitely consensual.”

Katie Russell from charity Rape Crisis told The Mirror: “The only person whose forgiveness Ched Evans should be seeking is the woman he raped.

“His protestations of innocence and sympathy only for his girlfriend are insulting, harmful and hurtful – not only to his victim but also to the
countless other victims of sexual violence out there. He has never taken a moment’s responsibility for his crime nor shown any regard for the terrible impact it has had on her.”
