The case of Elisa Lam is one of the most enduring mysteries of our time - which is why, we imagine, it was recently announced that her death is being turned into a horror movie entitled The Bringing.

The 21-year-old Canadian-Asian student was staying at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles at the time of her death in January 2013 – a budget hotel with some 600 guest rooms, which was built in 1927 and only partially refurbished in 2007.

Her body was discovered in the rooftop water tank two weeks later, after guests complained that their water 'tasted funny' and was a strange colour.

There were no traces of drugs or alcohol in her blood, and the coroner ruled that her death was the result of 'accidental drowning'.

This unnerving elevator surveillance tape, that records Elisa’s strange behaviour just minutes before she lost her life, has led many to believe that the cause of her death was supernatural.

Watch it for yourself below:

In the footage, Elisa's repeated attempts at pressing the lift buttons prove to be ineffective; it refuses to move, and the doors open and close apparently at random.

The bright and vivacious student, who had spoken openly about her bipolar disorder in her online blog, can also be seen moving in and out of the lift, 'hiding' from someone outside it and chatting and gesturing with some seemingly 'invisible entity'.

Right after the events of the video, Elisa apparently gained access to the rooftop of the hotel, climbed to its water tank and, somehow, ended up drowning in it.

Something which, as you will hear in the below report, would have been very difficult for Elisa to do alone.

How did she get onto the locked and alarmed rooftop without hotel staff noticing?

How did she climb into the 8-foot-high tank - so difficult to access that workers had to cut it open with tools to remove her body?

And how, if she managed to do all of this, did she find the strength to close the heavy lid after herself?

Paranormal investigators have also pointed out that the Cecil Hotel was, at one time, home to two serial killers, Richard Ramirez, a.k.a. The Nightstalker, and Jack Unterweger.

It was, they add, the last place butchered actress Elizabeth Short, a.k.a. The Black Dahlia, was seen before her grisly – and still unsolved – murder in 1947.

But, whether Lam was the victim of a supernatural incident, whether she was murdered, or whether she committed suicide, we simply don’t know, and we will probably never know.
