Sam Strike has confirmed his decision to move on from the role after just under a year on the BBC One soap.

He announced his decision on Twitter, writing: "Thanks for all the love this year guys. Means the world.

"Decided to bow out. couldn't have done it without you all.

"Thanks BBC EastEnders - and, of course, tremendous love to my Carter family."

WHY EASTENDERS ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO COVER LINDA CARTER'S RAPE STORYLINE**

Sam joined the popular soap late last year as the son of new Queen Vic owners Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda Carter (Kellie Bright).

He was given an incredibly tough storyline, coming out as gay to his parents - filming a series of emotional scenes which earned both him and Danny Dyer awards.

Speaking about the storyline, Sam said: "I was really nervous the night it aired because you want it to look convincing and to do justice by the people that have been there and done it.

"It was a real proving ground for me because it was the first time I actually had to do any proper drama acting. I've had letters and Danny's had letters saying that we'd helped people to come out and it makes things worth it."

Although bosses of the show are now remaining tight-lipped on just how he'll leave the show, they've revealed his final scenes have already been filmed - leaving many to speculate that he will be exiting the show around Christmas.

We wonder if Johnny will be leaving in a black cab or a casket? Fingers crossed it's the former - it would be good to see Mick reunited with his boy at some point in the future.
