After gifts, festive food is the main cost of Christmas but, by simply shopping around, there are ways to save money.

It might be easier to get the turkey and all the trimmings in one place but it really does make a difference if you utilise the high street.

Last year Brits are believed to have spent a whopping £118.31 on average on Christmas dinner – so we’ve put together a list which more than halves this.

To make things easier for you, we’ve only gone to three stores to minimise shopping time.

Here’s your Christmas lunch for six, from Iceland, Tesco and Sainsbury’s, for just £19.86 (which works out as £3.31 per head!):

Turkey – £9, Iceland

Potatoes – £1.50, Iceland

Christmas pudding – £2, Iceland

Brussels Sprouts – 49p, Tesco

Carrots – 49p, Tesco

Parsnips – 49p, Tesco

**Brandy butter – £1.89, Tesco **

Mince pies – 65p, Tesco

Sage & onion stuffing - 20p, Sainsbury’s

Cranberry sauce – 80p, Sainsbury’s

**Christmas cake – £2.35, Sainsbury’s **

Saving money on the food just means more cash for presents, right?
