Mel B's estranged mother has seemingly hit out at son-in-law Stephen Belafonte in an extraordinary Twitter rant.

Andrea Brown wrote: "Little good news 4 me lost half a stone in 1 week+ will never suffer a vile abusive 3am call from stephan Belafonti again! [sic]"

Shortly afterwards, Andrea posted another tweet, in which she wrote: "On average It takes 30 beatings 4 a woman to leave abusive man how sad more should b done 4 these victims!! [sic]"

It is unclear what she meant by the tweet, but speculation about abuse has been running rife since Mel B was forced to miss the X Factor final after she was rushed to hospital with a mystery illness.

Stephen Belafonte, meanwhile, has firmly denied any suggestion of domestic abuse towards his wife, and also reiterated that her hospital stay was because of an illness.

“Who accused me of it?” he said.

“Did she accuse me of it, the police the hospital, who accused me of it? I thought when you beat someone up the police or the hospital or the person you beat up says it.

“I had nothing to do with hurting my wife. I did not touch Mel. I wasn’t cheating of anything. There was no girl involved.”

Earlier this week, Belafonte took to Twitter to dispute abuse claims, calling claims he hit his wife “disgusting and untrue”.

Mel B has not commented on the reports. The pair have a three year old daughter, Madison.
