EastEnders viewers have been desperately calling for rapist Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) to be found guilty ever since he assaulted Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) in her own home.

But, while show boss Dominc Treadwell-Collins has promised "there will be justice", he has let slip that it will be served in a "shocking" manner.

"The police solving it is not satisfying for the viewer"

Speaking with The Radio Times, he explained that it is important to put the Carters at the forefront of the drama rather than the police - hinting that it will be Mick (Danny Dyer) or one of his family who delivers judgement upon Dean.

He said: "We're not The Bill. That show was about the police solving things.

"I don't have main characters who are police officers. We have tried very hard to create police characters who are interesting and who have their own stories.

"And there are more police twists coming up. But that’s not who my viewers are tuning in to see.

"They want to see Linda and Mick. They're the people they care about and not the police. So the police solving it is not satisfying for the viewer."

Will justice be served?

This echoes comments made by Dominic last year, when he announced firmly: "The easy and wrong way would be to have Dean arrested and taken off to prison.

"That's not what happens. I'd love to have done a big trial - we won't be doing a trial."

His words are supported by Matt Di Angelo's recent interview with the Daily Star, where the actor admitted that it is 'very unlikely' his character will be found guilty by police.

Matt said: "We all know Dean did do it but my character is now trying to prove his innocence and I think you will see over the next few episodes he does, if not prove his innocence, disprove his guilt.

"It is not about awards, actors or ratings, it is about if you are raped then the sad dark truth is the sooner you report it the better your chances of getting justice and that person being convicted.

"Dean getting off is unfortunately completely realistic. You just have to look at the statistics – 80 per cent of rape isn't reported. Of the 20 per cent that is reported only about 10 per of those leads to a conviction.

"So out of a hundred cases of men accused of raping women only two will lead to conviction. What we are trying to show is the sooner you report it, the more chances there are of that scumbag going to prison."

But who will make Dean face up to what he has done?

Well, Kellie Bright has revealed that she, for one, would love Linda to go head-to-head in a showdown with the Blades hairdresser.

She said: "Recently, I've been feeling very strongly that Linda should have a face to face with Dean.

"There are a lot of people fighting for Linda and I personally want to see Linda fight for herself."
