Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn sat down on ITV's This Morning to discuss a controversial upcoming storyline for the soap.

He said: "This summer is going to see Coronation Street at its classic best.

"It's going to be a mix of romance, of comedy, and of drama - and, out of that drama, Leanne Tilsley is going to find herself at the centre of a domestic abuse story.

"But this is a story with a twist. The perpetrator is Leanne's 12-year-old stepson Simon."

Yes; Leanne, played by Jane Dawson, will find herself the victim of brutal attacks from her young stepson Simon, in a dark plot which is set to unfold over the summer months.

The child-parent domestic abuse storyline will come as a shock to many of the soap's viewers, whom have seen Leanne care for Simon like he was her own son for years now.

Could it be that his unstable family background will begin to affect his behaviour?

And, perhaps more importantly, how will Leanne handle the upsetting situation?
