It seems as if 2015 is set to be a big comeback year for EastEnders, with the likes of Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) rising from the dead to retake her place on the BBC One soap.

And now Dean Gaffney - better known to soap fans as Robbie Jackson - has revealed that he would love to do the same.

Robbie was a popular EastEnders character for ELEVEN WHOLE YEARS until he and his girlfriend, Nita Mistry, decided to go and live in Mumbai back in 2003.

But, since flying off to sunnier climes, Robbie has popped back every once in a while. He made sure he popped back to watch little sister Sonia tie the knot with Martin Fowler in 2004 - and he even made it back for big sis Bianca's nuptials to Ricky Butcher in 2010.

So, with Carol Jackson and daughter Sonia still living in Albert Square - and struggling to cope with a big secret - it makes sense (sort of) that Dean could be back.

Speaking with Digital Spy, Dean explained: “I do feel that 2015 is the year of the comeback.

“Natalie Cassidy and Lindsey Coulson are two of the greatest actresses in that show, and I feel that the Jacksons are a big part of EastEnders.

"Robbie and Wellard were certainly a permanent fixture of that too, and I do hope one day that both myself and EastEnders can come to some sort of agreement and say, ‘Look, where has Robbie been?’"

He added: "It’d be very interesting to see where he’s been and with the fact Sonia and Carol are back there too, it does leave scope for that door to be left open.”

In the meantime, Dean - who is now the face of Marmite - has revealed that he is still good friend with some of his former cast mates, including Steve McFadden, who plays Phil Mitchell.

He added: “When me and Steve go out, he is always referred to as ‘Phil Mitchell’ and I’m always referred to as Dean Gaffney! He said that’s quite a powerful tool that I’ve got, for whatever reason I’ve got that.”

Well, quite.
