A man, who is in his mid-20s and lives alone, was apparently keen to become a father.

He waited until his circumstances were settled in terms of a job and home, so that he could provide the care a child would need - and then went about trying to find a surrogate.

After taking advice from specialist lawyers, he eventually asked his own mother (whose age has not been revealed) to carry his baby for him - and she readily agreed.

The woman gave birth to her own grandson seven months ago and her son has raised the little boy ever since.

Now, after hearing about the 'highly unusual case' at a family hearing in London, a judge has ruled that the man CAN adopt the baby boy.

However Mrs Justice Theis did admit that she had never encountered such a surrogacy agreement before.

She is quote in The Mirror as saying: “The arrangement the parties entered into is not one, as far as I am aware, that either this court or the clinic has previously encountered and although highly unusual, is entirely lawful under the relevant statutory provisions.”

Allowing the man to adopt the little boy, she added, would provide 'legal security' and help him to meet the needs of his son.
