Avril Lavigne reveals debilitating illness: ‘I thought I was dying’

Avril Lavigne has discussed the shocking moment she thought she was dying.

The 30-year-old was diagnosed with Lyme disease last year, but she suffered with the symptoms for months beforehand.

Singer Avril recalled how she was weak and lethargic all the time, she couldn’t eat and suffered spelled of lightheadedness.

A birthday trip to Las Vegas in October to celebrate her milestone was ruined by the symptoms.

Speaking to People magazine, Avril said: “I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed. My friends asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ I didn’t know.”

Avril believes she was bitten by a tick, adding: “I had no idea a bug bite could do this.

“I felt like I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk and I couldn’t move. I thought I was dying.”

She’s now recovering at home and being looked after by her mother and husband Chad Kroeger.

Now she’s almost back to her best, Avril can’t wait to release her new music and give something back to her supportive fans.

She said: “They were asking about me since I was MIA, so I mentioned to one fan directly that I wasn’t feeling good.

“The get-well messages and videos they sent me touched me so deeply.”
