When his sister asked if he and his wife could babysit her boyfriend’s son, John Truong was all too happy to oblige.

"I'm checking my Facebook, all of a sudden I see this Amber Alert for this child"

Seemingly delighted, Alyssa thanked her brother for allowing her and her partner the opportunity to enjoy a date night, and promised to pick up the 2-year-old boy in the morning.

But she never returned - and, eventually, Alyssa stopped answering her brother's text messages all together.

It wasn’t until the next day that John discovered he had become an unwilling accomplice in the child’s abduction.

"I'm eating my breakfast, I'm checking my Facebook, all of a sudden I see this Amber Alert for this child," explained John to KOMO News.

"And it looks like this child in my bed, and I'm like, 'Oh my God! What's going on?'"

He called police, who arrived to find the boy safe and sound.

They then sat him down and told him that his sister allegedly had attacked the toddler’s mother with a Taser, tied her up, locked her in a cupboard, and took kidnapped her young son Ronnie Tran.

The mother escaped and ran to a neighbour’s house for help; authorities then issued an Amber Alert for the missing child.

John, speaking about the child, has said that the little boy seemed content in his care, despite his ordeal.

He said: “He was a great kid. He didn't cry much or anything. He enjoyed my dog's company and my children's company.

"Everything seemed great and then all of a sudden I'm eating breakfast and it turns out to be this."

Speaking about his sister, who has been arrested on charges of kidnapping, assault and unlawful imprisonment, John added that he believes she has been misled.

"I feel like she was just helping her boyfriend out and just got into this horrible situation," he said.

"We're family people, this is definitely not like this. Honestly I'm at a loss for words right now. It's just crazy."
