The father-of-four took to Facebook to share the unbelievable breastfeeding story with his fans, writing: “So I'm up late feeding the baby and it reminded me of something that happened to a friend a few weeks ago.

“(I have changed a few details to protect the weirdos, I mean people, involved)."

"I was wondering if, and if it's not too odd, if I could have a bit of breastmilk?"

Jason Manford continued: “So this friend gets on a flight from a place in the UK to another place in the UK using a well know passenger airline. She sits in her seat and starts to breastfeed her 6 week old baby.

“After 10 minutes or so a stewardess comes over and says: ‘Excuse me, I don't mean for this to sound weird but could I ask you something?’

“Expecting this to be some sort of negative 'breastfeeding in public' type argument, my friend replies cautiously, ‘yes, ok’.

“The stewardess continues”: ‘Well I've had this infected eye for a few weeks and nothing will clear it.’

“My friend looks and it is indeed very red and sore looking.

“’Well, the thing is, I'm a mother of four myself and I know and remember very clearly that breastmilk has healing qualities and so I was wondering if, and if it's not too odd, if I could have a bit of breastmilk?’

“’To put in your eye?’

Jason continued to explain that his friend, although she found the request strange, went on to provide the stewardess with some of the milk.

He said: “My friend [got] a bag full of miniature spirits as a thank you (which ironically she won't actually get to drink till after she's finished breastfeeding!), and I got a new 'the world is a crazy place' style story on Facebook!

“One last footnote. As she departed the plane after 70 minutes of flying, she past the gunky eye stewardess who smiled and said ‘thank you’ again.

“My friend looked right into her eye and you know the weirdest thing? Her eye looked almost totally clear!”

Now if THAT isn’t the strangest breastfeeding in public story out there, we don’t know what is.

It is worth remembering that Jason Manford is, first and foremost, a comedian, so there’s a small possibility he’s pulling our legs.

However, his fans definitely seemed convinced.

One wrote happily: “Great to know that the word is spreading about the amazing properties of breast milk - not weird at all. Lovely story, but a pity the into described it a weird.”

Another added: “When my baby boy was in intensive care after he was born, I was advised by the nurses there to clean his eyes with my breast milk to stop infection in them.

“Breast is definitely best!!!”
