Shocking video shows what really happens when an abandoned child freezes on the streets

Wearing nothing more than a ripped t-shirt and clutching a cardboard sign, a young boy (posing as a homeless child for a social experiment) stood asking for help on the cold streets of New York.

But, after two hours, the ‘homeless’ child realised that nobody was going to talk to him or offer him any help.

In a bid to keep warm, he wrapped himself inside a bin bag and laid down on the street in a ball, shivering violently.

“They abandoned me"

Finally, a man came and sat beside him, to ask the boy where his parents were.

“They abandoned me,” the young boy told him weakly.

And, at that, the man stood up and pulled off his coat, wrapping it around the boy and hugging him tight.

He then gave the boy some of the change from his pocket - before revealing something truly shocking.

He was homeless himself.

"I'm homeless, you know,” he said simply. “And me being the older homeless person - we have to look out for each other."

Watch the video for yourself below now:

“If you wait until you can do everything for everybody, instead of something for somebody, you’ll end up doing nothing for nobody.”

We found it truly heartbreaking that the man who could least afford to give was the only one, out of hundreds of passers-by, to offer his help to a homeless child.

But we were glad to see that OckTV, who organised the social experiment, were so moved by the homeless man’s generosity that they gave him $500 in cash.

The video has, so far, been clocked up almost 16 million views.
