Once upon a time, face transplants were something of science fiction.

Nowadays, the procedure has almost become common place, with several now taking place every year.

But imagine if you lost your loved one, only for their face to be donated to someone desperately in need?

This became a reality for Rebekah Aversano when she lost her brother Joshua in a tragic traffic accident.

After agreeing for his organs to be donated, Joshua’s face was transplanted onto gunshot wound victim Richard Norris.

Rebekah lost her brother in 2012

Norris was left with terrible disfigurements after the accident in 1997, but his life has made a dramatic turnaround following the life changing surgery.

The operation took 36 hours and involved 150 medical staff members

Now Rebekah has bravely agreed to meet Norris, who wears her brother’s face as her own.
