Former celebrity publicist Max Clifford has been charged with indecent assault. According to the Crown Prosecution Service, the assault is alleged to have taken place in 1981.
In May last year, Clifford was sentenced to eight years behind bars after being found guilty of eight counts of indecent assault. The offences took place between 1977 and 1984.
It’s reported Clifford, 71, will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 21 July to enter his plea.
Last November, Clifford lost an appeal to have his sentence cut. At the time, his lawyer argued that the length of the jail term was “unfair” however Lord Justice Treacy, who heard his appeal along with Mr Justice Turner and Judge Michael Pert said it was fair.
He added: “It seems to us that, after consideration of the individual offences and the application of modern sentencing attitudes reflected in the guidelines, but tempered by the need to have regard to the statutory maximum available at the time, an overall sentence of eight years was justified and correct.”
Clifford was one of the first people to be convicted under Operation Yewtree – which started in the wake of the allegations against notorious sex offender Jimmy Savile. Gary Glitter, Rolf Harris and DJ David Lee Travis have also convicted under the same operation.
