Darla Neugebauer, who owns Marcy’s Diner in Portland, USA, made headlines when she snapped at one of her customers’ children.

However, somewhat surprisingly, the majority of people were on Darla’s side.

The mother of the child, Tara Carson, wrote about the experience in a now-deleted Facebook post on the diner’s page.

She said: “I had the worst experience at this establishment. The owner is an absolute lunatic and screamed in the face of my 2-year-old because she was crying.

“Who in their right mind would behave like this unless you are deranged?

“You have a problem with a child crying, then you are not suitable to run a business.

“If it bothered you that much, you should have spoken to me and not traumatised the child by screaming in her face.

“May karma bite you in the ass.”

Keen to defend herself, Marcy’s Diner’s Facebook commented on Carson’s post, writing that the whole incident started when the Carsons ordered too many pancakes.

They said: “After your fourth attempt to shut [the child] up I asked you to pack up either your rotten child or take the so-important pancakes to go… but NOOOOO, you just sit there and let your fking screaming kid go and ps off my staff and patrons.

“F**k you!

“And guess what? She shut the f**k up after I yelled from 5 feet away.”

It finished: “Your lesson today - not everyone thinks you and your family are all that.

“At least no one at Marcy’s Diner!”

The next day, the diner’s page addressed the incident on Facebook.

They explained that the child had screamed for over half an hour before Neugebauer lost her temper - and added that the little girl’s parents should have taken her outside.

“Why is it ok for that kid to disrupt the experience for 75 people when mummy or daddy could have taken it outside?

“Good parents do that… good parenting makes great kids. Good luck lady with that monster!”

She later added in another post: “Wow! Who knew calling out sh**ty parenting made you a bully? Whatever.

“For the record! I'm a foul-mouthed b**ch with a short fuse! Sarcastic, blunt, brutally honest & real… but the fact is MY DINER....MY RULES.

“The only thing I am sorry for is that child has to grow up with such terrible parents.”

When asked if she felt sorry about her actions Neugebauer told KVUE.com: "Sorry isn't the right word. I might have used poor judgement.

“I wouldn't say I was sorry, because it stopped. When things stop, it's usually a good thing."

However the toddler’s mother, Tara Carson, told the news site that she is still as disgusted with Neugebauer’s behaviour as before.

"I turned to my daughter and I was like 'Listen, this is how I'm raising you not to be as an adult. Like, you will never be like this when you get older,'" she said.

"I felt helpless as a mom that, you know, I couldn't do anything to help her, because I can't explain why there's crazy people in this world that behave like that."

Who do you agree with - the owner of the diner, or the toddler’s mother?
