So Stephanie, how would you describe your collection?
I wanted like an LA nights inspired collection so that’s what I’ve created. For that reason the collection is full of colourful blazers - because you always need one in the evening in case it gets a little chilly on the coast. I also wanted jean shorts which are very LA and some dungarees because they’re so on trend. I loved the fun, LA themed shoot which I think really complimented the clothes.
Do you have a stand out piece from the collection?
My favourite pieces are the black high waisted skirt with the crop top - which are great because they actually cover your stomach so you can still pig out, and I also really like the white strappy dress that I’m actually going to wear to a fourth of july party this weekend. It’s just really easy to wear, it’s very flattering, plus it covers you if you’re going to be eating BBQ food all day as I plan to!
I’ve also woven some tartan into the collection to reflect my British connection - just seeing that print just makes me think of the U.K. so I had to have it in there.
What do you think the main differences are between LA and London style?
LA style is a lot more relaxed than in London. I feel like I need to dress up more when I’m in London, whereas we’re a bit more beachy in California. LA girls also wear a lot more jewellery like tonnes of turquoise necklaces all at once, whereas in London people are into the leather pants, faux fur and diamonds look.
How do you decide what you’re going to wear to an event?
I try to have a few options if I’m going out, and the main thing is feel really good in what you’re wearing, if you don’t you will be able to tell and you’ll look uncomfortable.
When you’re picking an outfit for an event, make sure you know the vibe. You don’t want to be in full evening wear if you only need jeans, so always phone your friend, see what they’re doing, and then go from there.
Secondly, the right underwear is absolutely key. People underestimate it, but if your bra strap is showing or you’re wearing the wrong underwear it will ruin the look.
And lastly dress for your skin tone. I am very pale, so if I don’t have a tan I can get washed out by pale colours and nudes are tricky for me to wear. Just be conscious of it and if you’re pale like me beware!
What is your fallback outfit of the moment?
Fall back outfit of the moment is my white dress from my collection. I know it looks good, it’s easy to accessorise and it’s just simple and pretty.
Do you have a particular area you like to cover up or not make a thing of?
I don’t like my stomach because I’m like a square so I don’t often choose to wear crop tops. I have very long legs and then a short torso so I’m just not that comfortable with that part of me. The only time I can handle it is if I’m wearing something very high waisted.
