The EastEnders legend, 88, made the sad confession during a Q&A with fellow soap star Barbara Windsor.

When Babs, 78, brought June – famous for playing chain-smoking Dot Branning – on to the stage, she apologised for not being able to hear her friend, The Sun reports.

“Are you talking to me Babs?” June asked. “Tell me, because I’m deaf you see and it’s very hard for me to hear so I don’t know what you’re talking about. What did you say to me?”

Turning to the audience, June added: “Sorry, I would like you all to shout because I can’t hear, you see. I am ever so sorry. I am straining here.”

June later confirmed that her hearing became impaired during a recent flight, and she’s hoping it will come back.

Earlier this year June discussed the problems with her eyesight, admitting she’s praying that it will return.

Despite her health problems, June can't wait to get back to work

She said: “My eyes are not very good. In the left occasionally I do get this small circle with what looks like cross-wires.

“I do pray about my sight, maybe it will return. You might laugh and think, ‘She’ll never be poor when she’s old’ – but I’ve not squirrelled away lots of money.”

Despite her current health issues, June is said to be desperate to get back to work on EastEnders. Her character is currently in prison but, as soon as she’s been release, June will be back on our screens.
