She shot to fame as nerdy middle child Alex Dunphy in American sitcom Modern Family, but in real life the 17-year-old was forced to suffer from terrible back pain due to the weight of her 32F chest.
In an interview with Glamour, the teen star told of the bullying she endured from online trolls due to her curvier figure along with the pain.
She said: "The Internet bullies are awful. I could post a photo where I feel good, and 500 people will comment about how fat I am, and that I am disgusting.”
Ariel continued: "It started to hurt so bad that I couldn't take the pain. My neck was hurting so bad and I actually had some problems with my spine.
"It's hard when you're a teenage girl and you already have a lot of ridicule and then you pile on more, and it's kind of... it just gets too much. We live in a day and age where everything you do is ridiculed.”
The young star believes that by bravely sharing her story she can help others who are suffering from similar issues.
She said: “I also think there’s some good that can come from [telling] my story. It’s something that I did to better my life and better my health, and I think that can benefit a lot of young girls. I have felt happier with myself than I ever have."
