Yes Corrie fans, that IS the pitter-patter of little feet you can hear!

Earlier today, Simon Gregson confirmed that his beautiful wife Emma has welcomed a healthy baby.

The Coronation Street star made the announcement on Twitter, with the message: "After talking to a belly for 9 months, I can now talk to a beautiful little face and know it's not Mr Hanky.

"Myself and @emmagleave are thrilled."

But his third child didn’t have a drama-free arrival.

Simon, who plays Rovers landlord Steve McDonald, was switching on the Christmas lights in Wilmslow, Cheshire, when he revealed to his fans that his wife was waiting backstage for him to whisk her off to hospital.

He told the crowd: “She went into labour this morning, we’ve been doing some shopping, but we might be heading off to hospital.”

Crikey - talk about cutting it fine!

We imagine the baby news is exactly what Simon needed before Christmas; the actor recently announced that he was taking a break from Coronation Street to battle health issues.

It was reported that Simon had found Steve McDonald’s latest storyline particularly challenging as the character spiralled into depression.

“He put everything into it. It had a big impact on him because it helped to raise awareness of a condition which affects thousands of a condition which affects thousands of people,” a source told The Sun.

“He’s decided to take a bit of time out and has the support of everyone on the show.”

We imagine he will love spending time at home with his new baby, as well as his and Emma’s sons, seven-year-old Alfie and five-year-old Harry.

Congratulations to the happy couple!
