Lose 30 stone or die

Monday 17 December 2007
Lose 30 Stone or Die – this is the challenge set to thirty-six-year-old Colin, who weighs a deadly 48 stone.

Tomorrow night on ITV1, Colin’s exceptional story will be told in a unique film where his family talks frankly about the distress of his weight problem.

Colin is a prisoner in his own home because his weight means that he can’t even manage to walk more than a few steps and doctors have warned that unless he loses the weight, he will die.

He is in continuous pain, cannot breathe during the night and even needs help to get dressed each day.

The distressed man feels so low that he has even contemplated suicide.

He says: “People look at me and say, ‘he must be greedy and eat loads’, but I don’t. I am in constant pain with my back and my legs. I dream of coming through the operation – I want my life back.”

In the emotional film, Colin is seen as he prepares to undergo a series of major operations to reduce his stomach and significantly cut his weight. It also tells what lies beneath Colin’s problem, and reveals that a life of drug and alcohol problems in his twenties sent his weight spiraling out of control.

Lose 30 Stone or Die, Tuesday 18 December, 9pm, ITV1
