Coleen's summer wedding plans
Tuesday 18 December 2007
Closer columnist Coleen McLoughlin has been engaged to footie star Wayne Rooney for four years, and now they’ve finally set a date for the big day.
Coleen said: “I’ve always wanted to have a summer wedding and Wayne’s time off is really limited. June fits in with that.”
The upside of England failing to qualify for Euro 2008 is that Coleen’s footballer fiancé Wayne Rooney will be free to go on honeymoon as well.
Now with less than eight months to go until the big day, Coleen has gone into wedding-planning overdrive, already scouring Europe for locations including a historic mansion in Italy, as well as venues in France and England.
“I’ve seen so many places I just can’t make up my mind. It’s all quite confusing but what I do know is wherever we marry – here or abroad – it’s going to be very much a family affair.”
“Both me and Wayne are Roman Catholics, so I’ve always wanted a church wedding, but we’ll have to see. I would like a Catholic ceremony and want to be married by a priest.”
Wayne added: “Coleen is very much in charge. I trust her completely. My job is just to show up for what is going to be the best day of my life.”
The pair have been together since Wayne mended her bicycle chain five years ago, and Wayne proposed just under a year later in the forecourt of a garage in the Liverpool suburb of Croxeth in 2003. Both in their early 20s they are still young for marriage.
Coleen said: “We are young, but we have been together for such a long time that I don’t think that matters. When the time’s right and you know you want to get married then you have to go for it.”
