Fitness secrets of the stars!

Everyone wants to lose weight and get fit in the New Year but while it’s easy enough to make a resolution and join a gym, sticking to your new regime, especially when results aren’t immediate, can be a bit tougher! So how do the celebrities do it? Celeb personal trainer Sarah Williams spills the beans…
Carol Vorderman
Get an early start and do it all!
‘Carol is so busy, she always likes to make the most of her time by getting her workout done first thing in the morning, otherwise her day simply consumes her.
‘We’ll text each other at 6.30am and meet up. Then once I’m there and bugging her she’ll say ‘OK, let’s go, let’s do it!
‘Carol also really makes the time for exercise once she’s started. She prefers to do fewer longer sessions – she’ll do a couple of hours rather than 45mins, but once she’s committed to a session, she really goes for it and does all her toning!’
Charlie Brooks
Get a friend to support you
‘Losing weight is much harder if you try to go it alone. Charlie likes to be in touch all the time. If she goes out to a restaurant for example, like most girls she’ll struggle a bit so she likes to know I’m there. She’ll text me ‘Thin crust or deep crust?’ and I’ll text her back healthy suggestions.
‘She knows which healthy options to pick really, but it’s just nice to know I’m there with advice and encouragement.’
Lucy Benjamin
Clear out your cupboards and be prepared!
‘You can’t do it if you’re surrounded by the wrong foods – and by people who aren’t helping you! Lucy likes to clear out the ‘wrong’ foods and prepare healthy things like home-made soups to snack on when temptation strikes.
‘It’s tough to diet when temptation is lurking all around you. If I open a bottle of wine with friends, for example, I tend to finish it! Never go shopping when you’re hungry, as you’ll feel tempted into buying the wrong things. If you don’t have them in the house, then you can’t eat them.
And let people know what you’re doing – like tell the kids: ‘Mummy’s trying to lose a little weight,’ so they understand what’s going on.
Claire Sweeney
1/ Find a goal and aim for it.
‘Claire always has a weight in her head, and when she hits that weight she knows she’s gone a bit too fat. Then she starts dieting and exercising – and with Claire, it’s full-on or nothing!
‘Like most celebs she’s very busy, so she gives me a timescale and I tell her what’s achievable in that time. Then she’ll work really hard towards that goal.
2/ Vary your routine
‘Claire also likes to try out new things. She’s tried Pilates and had a go on the Swiss Ball. Both things that are quite taxing, but have a quick response. Varying your exercise regime is a great way to keep at it.’
Katy Hill
1/ Use a fit picture of yourself as motivation!
‘Katy keeps quite a lot of pictures of herself when fit and not so fit. She particularly likes some fit ones of when she was in the Channel 4 show The Games!
‘After she had her baby she wanted to get back in shape so she looked at them as a reminder of what she can achieve. Seeing the pictures means she knows she really can do it and responds better to training!
2/ Don’t go it alone
‘The other thing that really motivated Katie was finding someone to work out with. She always said that doing it together made all the difference – we’d have a good old natter while running and before she knew it the session was over. So convince a friend to work out with you and you’ll find it much easier to keep it up!’
Gail Porter
Don’t get bored – get into the facts
‘What motivated Gail was having as much information as she could about what she was doing, how it would help her and so on.
‘The knowledge that she was doing it correctly, and the facts about how it all worked, was what really got her going.
'If you’re like this, make sure you read up on your subject or ask questions at the gym. Don’t just follow blindly – knowing how it all works will really give you the extra motivation you need.’
