Michelle Williams ‘heartbroken’
Monday 04 February 2008
Michelle Williams has spoken out for the first time about her heartache over the tragic death of her ex-fiancé Heath Ledger.
The 27-year-old actress met Heath on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2005 where they co-starred as husband and wife. Later that year they moved to New York together where they had their first daughter Maltida, now two, in October.
Michelle said: “Please respect our need to grieve privately. My heart is broken. I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father.
“All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day.”
"His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up in the best memories of him."
Yesterday Hollywood paid tribute to the Oscar-nominated Australian actor in a star-studded LA memorial service.
Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Sienna Miller, Josh Hartnett and Lindsay Lohan were just a few of the stars that attended the second memorial service to pay their respects.
Heath, 28, who had separated from Michelle in September, died of a suspected drugs overdose in his Manhattan apartment on 22 January. However, the cause of his death is still pending the outcome of toxicology tests.
