Coleen & Alex blitz their bodies

Monday 11 February 2008

As Coleen and Alex flaunt their newly toned bikini bodies on holiday, we reveal how they got in shape.

Closer columnist Coleen McLoughlin, 21, left her fiancé Wayne Rooney, 22, behind last week and set off for Barbados.

After confiding in Closer before Christmas that she wanted to lose a few pounds and tone up, Coleen revealed her svelte new figure.

An onlooker said: “You could tell she’d been working out, there were no bulges. She looked fab.”

Coleen, who’s 5ft 3 and a size 10, says that she tries not to restrict herself when dieting and swaps treats with their low-fat alternatives: “It’s all about choosing the healthy option. I love crisps, but I’ll go for Quavers or Wotsits as they’re lower in calories,” she says.

Coleen’s training sessions include cardio, such as running or boxing, plus free weights and Pilates.

She says: “I really enjoy Pilates, which is probably why I keep my curves. The exercises are toning rather than fat-burning.

“I like to think I’m a real woman. I’m curvy, healthy and happy as I am.”

Alex Curran, the wife of England vice-captain Steven Gerrard, 27, also headed for the sun last week. And the results of her post-Christmas regime were plain to see, as she revealed a flat stomach and taut legs on holiday in Dubai.

At 5ft 9, Alex, 25, weighs a healthy 9st and has always been proud of her curves. She does watch her portion sizes, though, and recently told Closer her resolution for 2008 was to tone her arms and tummy – and it’s obviously worked.

She has a gym at her Liverpool home and regularly swims with her children, Lexie, seven months, and Lilly-Ella, three. She also advises walking everywhere if you don’t have time for the gym, and doing sit-ups at home.

Alex’s typical daily diet starts with low-fat cereal, a salad for lunch, and pasta or steamed fish and veg for dinner.

She says: “Steven needs lots of veg to stay fit, which is great because it means I eat well, too.”

But she admits it’s not always easy, saying: “I indulge at the weekends. I’ll have a Galaxy or a packet of crisps instead of fruit, and Steven and I eat out more.”

And Alex says her top diet tip is to get rid of your plate when you’re full, so you’re not tempted to go for seconds.
