Alex Turner

A messy night for Arctics star

Friday 29 February 2008

After their on-stage antics at the Brits, we’d expected a bit of a messy night for the Arctic Monkeys at last night’s NME awards.. but maybe not quite so literally!

It seems frontman Alex Turner was 20 minutes late going on stage last night, after his girlfriend was sick all over him.

The monkey was sharing a cheeky snog with girlfriend Alexa Chung when the T4 presenter suddenly stopped, turned, and promptly vomited all over his brand new trainers.

The shocked 21-year-old jumped backwards away from the scene, before leading Alexa to the loos and staying with her until she felt better.

One stunned onlooker said: “Alex and Alexa were having a cheeky snog by the lifts shortly before he was due to go on stage.

“It was all getting pretty heated when all of a sudden Alexa began to heave – and was suddenly violently sick.

“After filming her show for T4 all day it appears she’d developed a severe bout of food poisoning.

“Alex was a knight in shining armour though. He insisted on accompanying her to the toilets and holding her hair back as she hurled into the loo.”

Although the poorly presenter was forced to leave early and head home to bed, the Monkey persevered and eventually picked up the award for Best British Band along with Best track for Fluorescent Adolescent and Best Video for Teddy Picker.

Other winners included Kate Nash for Best Solo Artist and Pete Doherty for Hero Of The Year, while Amy Winehouse was voted Worst Dressed, and poor old Britney Spears was awarded with Worst Album for Blackout.
