Survey reveals women don't care about safe-sex

Thursday 03 April 2008

Young women have an 'aware but don't care' attitude to safe-sex, a worrying new survey has revealed.

According to research by The Body Shop and MTV, 63% of sexually active 16 to 24-year-olds admit to having unprotected sex, and a third of these have had unprotected sex with two or more partners.

The study was carried out as part of the Get Lippy UK campaign, which aims to raise awareness and prevention of HIV and Aids amongst 15 to 24-year-olds.

The campaign, which has been launched by The Body Shop and MTV Networks UK & Ireland, will also be raising money for the Staying Alive Foundation from sales of Limited Edition Guarana Lip Butter by The Body Shop.

While many young people believe HIV will never touch their lives, globally over 40 million people live with HIV and AIDS.

Shockingly, half of all new HIV infections are among young adults under 25 and it is estimated a person aged 15-24 becomes infected with HIV/AIDS every 15 seconds.

To back the campaign by spreading the message, log onto www.moveyourlips.com or you can buy a new Limited Edition Guarana Lip Butter from any The Body Shop UK store nationwide or from www.thebodyshop.co.uk.
