Jennifer Lopez Jennifer Lopez

J-Lo's extreme baby weight regime

Monday 07 April 2008

Jennifer lopez looked slim and radiant in New York last week, little more than a month after giving birth to twins. And we can reveal her amazing figure is down to three hours of exercise a day.

Jennifer, 38, who’s said to have put on almost 4st while pregnant with twins Max and Emme, has shed a whopping 40lbs – losing 10lbs a week since giving birth in February.

A source said: “She spent the last month of her pregnancy planning her regime with a team of nutritionists and personal trainers. She calls them her 120lb team [8st 8lbs] in reference to her target weight.”

But it’s been no easy task for the singer-turned-actress, who’s been working out for three hours a day, seven days a week. The Latino diva does Pilates, then one-hour cardio workouts consisting of stationary cycling, running up 12 flights of stairs and boxing. She ends with an hour of weight training.

4am workouts

The source revealed: “Jennifer’s always been a workaholic, and she applied the same attitude to her post-pregnancy regime. And because raising twins is so demanding, she gets up at 4am to fit it all in.”

Not only has 5ft 5 Jen, who weighed 8st 6lbs before her pregnancy, been pushing herself to the limit with her tough exercise regime, but she’s also eating just 1,400 calories a day, banning all
carbs. Instead, she eats high-protein steamed fish or skinless chicken, wrapped in leaves of kale or Swiss chard.

“Jen doesn’t allow herself any sugar, caffeine or alcohol, and only drinks purified water,” said our source. “When the twins were born, friends sent her boxes of chocolates, but she made her assistant bin them.”

But nutritionist Juliette Kellow warned that Jennifer shouldn’t take her strict diet and exercise plan too far. She said: “Ten pounds a week is a huge amount to lose, and pregnancy puts a tremendous strain on the system. Jennifer’s body needs to recover. Doctors advise you to wait
at least six weeks after giving birth before you exercise. And it shouldn’t be hardcore aerobics.

“Jennifer also needs lots of sleep. Heavy exercise will wear her out, and she won’t have the energy to look after her babies. She shouldn’t cut out carbs,” added Juliette. “She needs the energy, and they’ll keep her digestive system healthy.”

Marc's secretly feasting on pizza

Jennifer’s husband Marc Anthony, 39, has been very supportive and is trying to adapt to her new diet regime.

“He sneaks out when Jennifer goes to bed and feasts on pizza,” said the source. “But he’s very careful to clean up any tempting food leftovers! But Jennifer’s kept going thanks to all the compliments she’s been getting. Having everyone tell her how great she looks is a big motivator.”
