Don't lose faith

It took me over two years to lose over 12 stone. Although I lost weight quite quickly at first it then started to slow down and sometimes jumping on those scales was miserable if I hadn’t lost any weight at all or worse still put some on.

That is the most dangerous time, living through the lapses. It is very tempting when you feel you deserve to be losing weight quicker than you are to chuck the towel in completely and soon you have undone all your good work. Have faith. The odd lapse will not hurt you. Nobody puts on pounds and pounds with the occasional day off. It is all the days that follow that will keep you on track.

Remind yourself that it is your daily everyday habits that will make the most difference in the long run and it is them that you are trying to change for good. If in your heart of hearts you know that on a certain occasion you are going to cheat, prepare for afterwards. An extra long walk with some good healthy snacks will make you feel so much better than feeling guilty and then reaching for the chocolates to console yourself.

Always try to be in control even when you are not strictly staying to your plan. Keep a mental tally on what you are eating and drinking. Try not to fall into the excuse that if you’ve indulged in one naughty thing you might as well have twenty. And if after all you do have a little disappointment on the scales, dust yourself off, remind yourself of the many fantastic reasons for carrying on, tell yourself you deserve to succeed, and get back on the bike.
