Courteney Cox

Courteney tries for baby no.2

Monday 28 April 2008

After a year of conflict over their baby plans, Courteney Cox and husband David Arquette have started trying for a second child.

Actor David, 36, has wanted a sibling for their daughter, Coco, three, for more than two years, but Courteney wanted to make a success of her US TV show Dirt first. And pals say the star’s anxiety about going through another IVF procedure – which can cause unpleasant side effects – was a major reason in delaying trying for another baby. The couple began having fertility treatment to conceive Coco in 2003.

A friend of the stars said: “David was ready to start trying for a baby again, but Courteney wasn’t and she had a full schedule of filming to contend with.

“The truth is she didn’t know if she had the energy to go through the IVF ordeal again. It was so hard last time.”

Ex-Friends star Courteney, who’s best pal Jennifer Aniston
is rumoured to be thinking about adopting a child, revealed last year how the fertility treatment had taken its toll on her.

Speaking about IVF in June 2007, the 43-year-old actress said: “My emotions were all over the place. I’ll probably do it one more time – but I’m not ready right at this moment.”

Side effects of IVF can include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and headaches, as well as mood swings and stress. Courteney also suffered post-natal depression after Coco’s birth.

Pals say the issue of having another child nearly tore the couple apart and they were even spotted arguing loudly on an LA beach earlier this year.

A friend said: “It’s pushed them to the limit. They began to clash whenever they discussed babies as David felt Courteney was skirting around the issue by refusing to set a date for IVF, and she thought he wasn’t being supportive over her desire to make a success of her show.

“David couldn’t understand why they’d risk waiting when she’s 43. He thought she was putting her career before their family. It was so stressful when Courteney threw her energy into Dirt and began looking really gaunt.”

But now, after months of marriage counselling to resolve the issue, the couple say they’re ready to add to their family. And Courteney was last week snapped looking healthier than she has in months.

However, pals say despite their strengthened relationship, it’s still a testing time for the couple.

The source said: “Courteney knows it could take a long time to get pregnant and that the disappointment may be stressful.
“This was one of the reasons why she held back for so long. It wasn’t that she didn’t want another baby – it’s whether she’d have the energy to put her body through the physical process, and herself and David through the emotional ordeal.

“Now she’s ready. Hopefully it will be easier this time and they’ll get their spark back.”
