Your Star Sign Diet Guide

Thursday 02 September 2010

The planets are said to influence every aspect of our lives, and we at Closer like nothing better than poring over our horoscopes for a little intergalactic sneak preview.

But our zodiac sign is not just responsible for certain character traits, it also affects our physical strengths and weaknesses and how we respond to food and dieting.

Believe in star signs or not, why don’t you see if you recognise yourself in our guide to horoscope dieting?

Whether you’re an impulsive Aries or a laid-back Libra, Closer found the best foods for each star sign and many tips on how to make dieting easier for you.

Aquarius

January 21 – February 19Aquarius

Aquarians are independent and don’t like getting stuck in a routine, so a flexible eating plan is a must.

This star sign is also drawn to the mysterious and thus might be attracted to fad diets, slimming pills and food supplements.

Their unpredictable nature can play havoc with their diet. Aquarians might be sticking to their diet religiously for weeks and then go on a food binge at the drop off a hat.

Aquarius is said to rule circulatory system, so high blood pressure is not unusual in times of emotional stress.

To stay in good health, Aquarians should watch their salt levels as a lack of this mineral can lead to a sluggish circulation.

Beneficial foods:

*Dates, figs, peaches, pears, lemons, pomegranates and strawberries
* Cabbage, celery, corn, peppers, radishes, squash and tomatoes
* Lentils and brown rice
* Almonds, pecans and walnuts
* Chicken
* Veal
* Clams, ocean fish, lobster and tuna

Pisces

February 20 – March 20Pisces

Pisceans are well organised and good at planning, so adapting to a new diet regime goes smoothly for those born under Neptune’s influence.

Because this star sign loves good food, Pisceans should follow a diet with great variety.

Being blessed with a vivid imagination, Piscean people should try and visualize how they will look when they reach their target weight to help them through any glitches.

Because the Pisces’ physical system is fairly delicate they can be prone to colds, flu and infections.

This zodiac sign is associated with the mineral iron, which is essential to ward off anemia, low blood pressure and inflammations.

Beneficial foods:
* Beetroot, lettuce, onions and spinach
* Apples, apricots, dates, grapes, lemons, oranges, peaches and prunes
* Barley, dried beans and whole-grain cereals
* Lamb and lean beef
* Chicken
* Natural cheeses
* Oysters

Aries

March 21 – April 20Aries

Ariens are energetic and impulsive, so a restrictive diet might be hard to follow. And despite their great enthusiasm and a love of challenges, people born under this sign can quickly lose interest if they don’t see results.

Aries rules the head and face, which means that many Ariens are prone to headaches and blocked sinuses. The mineral assigned to this zodiac sign is potassium phosphate. When levels of this salt run low, Ariens might feel down and depressed.

Beneficial foods:
*Bananas, dried apricots and figs
* Beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cucumber, pumpkins and spinach
* Brown rice, lentils and walnuts
* Veal
* Flounder and swordfish

Taurus

April 21 – May 21Taurus

The Taurean’s patient and methodical nature means they find it easier to stick to a diet plan than other signs, and they are rarely attracted to fad diets. However, their love of homely, rich foods and slow metabolism can make it hard to drop the pounds.

A balanced diet with regular meals throughout the day will work best for people born under this sign.

When under stress, Taureans can be prone to bloating, so their associated salt is sulphate of sodium, which controls the amount of water in the system.

Beneficial foods:
* Cranberries
* Celery, green salads, kidney beans, Swiss chard, spinach and wheat germ
* Raw nuts
* Eggs
* Liver
* Seafood

Gemini

May 22 - June 22Gemini

This sign is blessed with a fast metabolism and their love of change means they can adapt quickly to a new, healthier lifestyle. But the Gemini’s fickleness and impatience can often be their downfall when following a diet regime.

The ideal diet buddy for this sign is a down-to-earth Taurus who can help them to persevere.

Gemini’s ruling planet Mercury influences the body’s nervous system and people born under this sign have a tendency to be ‘nervy’ and easily stressed. To stay calm, they should avoid caffeine and stay away from too much alcohol.

The Gemini person’s diet should include good quality ‘nerve foods’.

Beneficial foods:
* Apples, asparagus, grapefruit, oranges, peaches and plums
* Cauliflower, carrots, green beans and tomatoes
* Almonds and wild rice
* Broiled fish and shellfish
* Milk, buttermilk and cottage cheese

Cancer

 June 23 – July 23Cancer

On the plus side, Cancerians are very patient and great at following their plans through. They are committed and persevere until they have reached their goals.

But their love of good food and entertaining others can sabotage their good intentions. This sign also has a tendency to comfort eat when emotionally stressed.

So a strictly calorie-controlled diet is not the best plan to lose weight for Cancerians. They should follow a regime that allows them to choose from a great variety of foods.

The parts of the body associated with this sign are the stomach, breasts, womb, ribs and abdominal organs.

Beneficial foods:
* Blueberries, grapes, melon, oranges and strawberries
* Chives, lettuce and parsley
* Lemongrass and chamomile
* Fish and shellfish

Leo

July 24 – August 23Leo

Fun loving and excitable Leos are easily attracted by miracle promising fad diets. Their enthusiasm and will to succeed aides their weight loss but Leos can also become disillusioned quickly when things don’t go as well as they expected.

A balanced diet regime that is focusing on long term weight loss works best for this sign and ideally Leo people should join a support group to help them through difficult patches.

The body parts ruled by this sign are the heart, the spine the back. A diet with low fat-levels is essential to keep the cardio-vascular system in good working order.

Leo’s mineral is magnesium phosphate, which maintains the fluidity of the blood and activates digestive enzymes.

Beneficial foods:
* Whole wheat and rye products
* Almonds, dates, raisins and walnuts
* Coconuts, figs, lemons, peaches and pears
* Asparagus, beetroot and romaine
* Beef, lamb, liver
* Seafood

Virgo

August 24 – September 23Virgo

Virgo dieters benefit from the signs associated qualities of practicality, sensibility and attention to detail. But they often set their expectations too high and get disappointed if they can’t fulfill their ambitious goals.

Virgo rules the nervous system and the intestines, and the Virgo person’s tendency to worry can easily mess up their digestion. Thus a fairly plain and straight forward eating plan (not too spicy) will suit people born under this star sign best.

The mineral assigned to Virgos is potassium sulphate, regulating oil in the body. Extreme deficiency of this salt can lead to dry skin, a flaky scalp and fatigue.

Beneficial foods:
* Whole wheat and whole grain breads, wheat germ and oats
* Chicory and romaine
* Bananas, melon, oranges and papaya
* Eggs and cottage cheese

Libra

September 24 – October 23Libra

Like Taureans, Libra dieters are plagued by a slow metabolism, which isn’t helped by their laid-back attitude and dislike of exercise.

Librans are conscious of their looks and physical appearance though, which motivates them to keep fit and healthy. They also adapt well to new lifestyle routines, but people born under this zodiac sign best stay away from ‘effortless’ or ‘quick fix’ diet plans.

Joining an exercise group or hiring a personal trainer will help Librans to stick to a fitness regime.

The body parts ruled by Libra are the kidneys, so excessive drinking or indulging in processed foods is a no-no. A balanced diet is essential for the Libra person’s well being.

The mineral associated with this star sign is sodium phosphate, which has cleansing and detoxifying benefits.

Beneficial foods:
* Apples, raisins and strawberries
* Beetroot, carrots, corn, radishes and tomatoes
* Broiled fish and seafood
* Poultry
* Low-fat cheeses and yogurt

Scorpio

October 24 – November 22Scorpio

Scorpios are often described as well organised and determined, which makes dieting easier for them. But their intense focus on the goal can make people of this star sign push themselves too hard.

The sign of Scorpio is associated with the sex organs, but Scorpio people are also very sensitive towards emotional stress and pain, which is why they often suffer from infections.

Scorpio’s mineral is calcium sulphate, which aides the repair of body tissue and helps to build up resistance to infectious illnesses.

Beneficial foods:
*Artichokes, escarole, kale, parsnips and watercress
* Cheese, milk and yogurt
* Almonds and walnuts
* Black cherries, pineapple and prunes

Sagittarius

November 23 – December 21Sagittarius

Sagittarians are very enthusiastic about starting projects and enjoy learning new things, but all their motivation can be sabotaged by their tendency to take on too many things at once.

This star sign is also well known for their love of a hedonistic lifestyle and their undomesticated nature makes it hard for Sagittarians to follow a diet regime.

A diet with simple, quick to prepare meals is the way forward. To make exercise more enjoyable for this fun loving sign, Sagittarians should try out different sports rather than hitting the gym as they get easily bored of routines.

This zodiac sign is associated with the thighs and hips, so people born under this zodiac sign are prone to gain weight in those areas. Ruling planet Jupiter is linked to the liver and pituitary glands, so Sagittarians should try to keep alcohol intake and fat levels low.

The salt associated with Sagittarius is Silica, which is essential for a healthy nervous system, hair and gums.

Beneficial foods:
* Cherries, figs, lemons, oranges, plums and strawberries
* Asparagus, brussel sprouts, green peppers, potatoes and tomatoes
* Oats and whole grain cereal
* Eggs, skimmed milk and yogurt
* Fish

Capricorn

December 22 – January 20Capricorn

Capricorns have many qualities that make dieting easier for them than for other star signs: they are focused, determined and well organised.

However, they find it hard to take advise from others – so if Capricorn people experience problems with their diet they might find it hard to get back on track without the support from fellow dieters or a personal trainer.

A practical diet plan with strict rules works best for this zodiac sign and Capricorns should be prepared to seek advice and support from others to achieve maximum results.

Capricorn is associated with the skeleton and teeth, so unsurprisingly their assigned mineral is calcium phosphate, which is essential for bone formation.

Beneficial foods:
* Figs, lemons and oranges
* Broccoli, cabbage, dandelion-greens, kale, peas, potatoes and spinach
* Almonds and walnuts
* Brown rice and Oats
* Fish
* Eggs
* Buttermilk, cheese and yogurt
