Tomato, feta and mint salad

Celebrate British Tomato Week!

Wednesday 21 May 2008

Tomatoes are one of our favourite fruits – not only are they delicious and incredibly versatile, they also have a wide range of health benefits.

They’re packed with nutrients and vitamins and contain a high amount of the antioxidant lycopene, which helps to protect against illnesses like cancer and heart disease. Fresh tomatoes are also full of calcium, which keeps your bones and teeth strong and healthy.

British Tomato Week is running from the 19th May until the 25th May 2008 to celebrate this super fruit and it’s versatility: whether you like your tomatoes roasted and stuffed with goats cheese, or simply drizzled with olive oil and fresh basil, there’s a tomato dish for everybody’s taste.

So why not get creative and send in your favourite healthy tomato recipe? The British Tomato Grower’s Association and English Village Salads are donating £1 per recipe to Macmillan Cancer Support, so not only are you sharing your yummy meal ideas, you’re also doing your bit for charity!

To take part, send your tomato recipe to britishtomatoes@haygarth.co.uk before the 1st September 2008.
