Byonce's L'Oreal advert Beyonce as she looks naturally

Controversial Beyonce advert

Friday 08 August 2008

Beyonce Knowles has found herself at the centre of a media storm after her latest advert for L'Oreal appeared in Elle magazine. The hair advert featured a very pale looking Beyonce with reddish-blonde hair, quite different from the black singer's natural colouring.

L'Oreal have thus far denied claims they have "whitewashed" the picture but the New York Post has labelled the advert "shocking" and Britain's best-selling black newspaper The Voice said it would be "disgusted" is the image had been altered to make Beyonce 'whiter'.

The Voice editor, Steve Pope, said: "There is an attitude in the modellin industry that black models do not sell. Models that end up in magazines tend to be very, very light-skinned or Asian.

"It appears Beyonce has been the victim of that kind of attitude. If it is true, I cannot undertsand why anyone would want to do anything so ridiculous. It is offensive to Beyonce."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves!

RE: Controversial Beyonce advert

It doesn't look to me like she's been "whitewashed", it looks like the lighting, but if Beyonce has been "whitewashed" then shame on L'Oreal. Beyonce is a beautiful young role model to girls and women alike and has made L'Oreal millions for that very reason. I doubt that somebody as proud of their roots, colour, religion etc as Beyonce, would knowingly or willingly let anybody taint or belittle such strong beliefs, no matter how much money they were offered.

RE: Controversial Beyonce advert

i dont beleive that beyonce has been whitewashed. with the work that is done on photographs to make skin appear clear and perfect it may just appear that these touch ups have made her lighter skined. this put together with make up and lighting any black female would seem lighter, to me the real problem is her face being touched at all, beyonce is a beautiful women and she needed no touch ups. the effect that the appearance of celebritys have has a huge impact on the way todays females veiw themselves when in comparison.
