The best foods for a healthy sex life

Feed your sex life

Thursday 17 March 2011

Nutritional science is a clever thing, isn’t it? Simply by eating the right foods you can improve your concentration, energy levels, skin… the list is endless.

And, you will be pleased to hear, a few small changes to your diet can improve your sex life by a tenfold!

Unsurprisingly, the healthier your diet is, the healthier is your love-life. The more energy-increasing foods you eat, the more passion you can bring to the bedroom! It’s not rocket science!

But just as healthy food makes you look and feel good, it’s often the greasy, sugary calorie-bombs that end up leaving you sluggish, sleepy, guilty and even depressed. Plus the resulting spots from choc-fests and greasy fry-ups aren’t much of a turn on!

Luckily there’s a great variety of foods that are said to be great for boosting your libido, so there’s something for everyone.

Key food groups to improve your sex drive are fruit & veg, nuts, herbs and spices and fish and meat.

Being the helpful little Cupids that we are, we put on our spectacles and compiled a list of nookie-enhancing nosh for you, and  put together a  few guidelines on what to avoid to enjoy a healthy sex life!

Libido-lovers:

* Celery, Asparagus, Sauerkraut
* Basil
* Chillies, Garlic, Cardamon
* Figs, Bananas, Avocados
* Almonds, Pumpkin Seeds
* Oysters

Libido-killers:

* Low-fat diets - Fats are essential for producing lust hormones

* Hydrogenated oils and fats – Good fats are linked to pleasure, but these nasties reduce the chances of a good love life

* Sugar – Too much sugar causes blood sugar levels to fluctuate which reduces energy levels and overall wellbeing, including sexual health. Reach for sugar alternatives to avoid a lowered libido.

* Crash diets – A nookie-killer, since a sudden drop in daily calorie or nutrient intake can cause a decline in sex hormones and a lagging libido.
