Beat the bulge

James King's top tips

Monday 22 December 2008

This week, celebrity personal trainer James King tells you how to stay focused and keep up your fitness regime!

What ever you do, don't dare think of quitting.

Weight loss is not necessarily a linear process, it is a natural and common process to loose a 1lb a week for 4 weeks then to suddenly go exponential and start loosing 3-4 lb a week or vice versa.

The key is to stay focused on your major goal and ask yourself the following questions:

Is hard hard enough?
Like anything worth having in life, attaining the body of your dreams takes hard work. Do not simply turn up to the gym, plod around for an hour and kid yourself into believing that you have done good.

You must apply yourself while youre there, the more effort you put in the you will get back in the form of burned energy and a better body. Training hard, to the extent that you start to pull funny faces in the mirror or at least work up a really good sweat places a stress on your body and your body's response to this stress is to cut fat. The higher the stress the higher the return!

Dont think of hard work as unpleasant! The skills you will learn through working hard to help you achieve that great body will transfer to other domains of your life and you will reap the rewards from adopting this new mind set.

Are you bored?

Doing the same work out? Eating the same foods? This is common and may be due to a lack of education on recipes or styles of exercise but help is at hand to make every day new and exciting. Try www.closerdiets.com for a personalised meal plan full of fantastic, healthy dishes that are tailored to your individual requirements.

Unfortunately the human body is designed to be as economical as possible. The more you perform an activity or exercise the less strain it will have on your body, so the key is to keep your body guessing.

Keep changing what your doing in the gym so that your body will stay more responsive to changes. Try and see a personal trainer or ask your gym instructor for a new workout every 4-6 weeks.
