Elle Style Awards 2009

Tuesday 10 February 2009

Last night turned out to be one of my favourite nights out of the year so far!

The Elle Style Awards 2009 were held to honour fashion’s elite and from start to finish the organisers got it right. To start with, it was six times smaller than usual……so you could work the room easily. It was jam-packed with stars and even the food wasn’t the usual let down!

Scream Queen Courtney Love literally rocked my world (as per usual) with her crazy antics at the bash. She picked up the top gong, Fashion Icon, and made sure everybody knew she was there to have a good time. She enjoyed chatting to everyone - but paid particular attention to David Walliams, fashion designer Henry Holland, Pixie Geldof and Alice Dellal.

Courtney’s just one of those icons of our time who’s been through it all……and fortunately made it through to the other side. She also didn’t look as skinny as of late. She looked pretty hawt! She made me laugh during her acceptance speech when she announced she’d left her Gucci handbag underneath Pixie’s table and to watch it as it had “her stuff” in it! God knows what that referred too.

Pixie was in the mood to party with her trendy pals, including the night’s host Alexa Chung, Rick Edwards and drag Queen Jodie Harsh (who was definitely more than wasted, bless). Pix told me she’s thrilled to be gracing the cover of Italian Vogue this month but admitted she was nervous as hell.

She said: “It came out today and I’ve been super nervous all day long. It’s such a big deal for me. But modelling isn’t all I’m doing right now.

"I’m still working bloody hard at school and I’ve decided to go and study Fine Art at university so I’m sorting that out now. Modelling comes second to my education. Always has, always will.”

The smoking area was obviously where it all kicked off. Roisin Murphy sported an unusual (but uber cool) pair of MC Hammer style trousers, model Olivia Inge proclaimed her look for the night as “She-Ra”, Anna Friel said she wasn’t enjoying the cold as she huddled for a puff in her not-so-good Viktor & Rolf dress with Emilia Fox in tow and Will Young and Dan from The Feeling caught up too.

Sugababe Heidi Range looked stunning in a red dress sporting her freshly chopped locks. The haircut really does suit her….. the Liverpool born and bred singer, who was with her boyfriend Dave Berry, admitted she put her foot in it with Roisin Murphy though.

She told me: “I just love Roisin and had to go up and say hello. I said hi and said I loved what she was wearing and she looked at me weirdly and pulled a really funny smile. I felt so silly.” I’m sure she was fine, Heidi!

Young actress Tamsin Egerton told me she had a laugh hanging out with Alex Pettyfer and Robert Pattinson the night before at the Baftas.

She said: “Robert and Alex were haging out together and decided to attend last minute and they knew they were dressed so wrong for the Baftas. But hey, at least they made an entrance and were noticed in their trainers and jeans! Ha ha.” That they did Tamsin!

Mickey Rourke had his hands all over a skinny Thandie Newton. The actress made quite an impression on the Wrestler star when she presented him with his award!

Jo and Tyrone Wood stepped out for a fag with a truly stunning Rosie Huntington-Whitley, who, naturally, picked up the award for Best Model. Rosie brought her mum along too - sweeeeet!

Donna Air and Lisa Snowdon stuck together like glue at the after show bash but Lisa sloped off early to make sure she was fresh for her Capital FM radio show this morning! That girl is like a work horse!

Matthew Williamson stuck to Sienna Miller’s side throughout the evening - and Sienna brought her mother along too…

X Factor winner Alexandra Burke looked stunning in a gorgeous sequined Dolce & Gabbana dress. She told me: “I used to wear high street a few weeks ago - and now look at me. I had no idea what to wear and this showed up earlier today. I feel fantastic in it!” It looked great on her!
